Camera trapping is a favored and common method use Camera trapping is a favored and common method used in ecology to capture point-based photographic samples of animal species. Camera traps function independent of time and space, are weather- and researcher-independent, and more importantly, allow multi-hour observations 🐘 🦁

Animal species by photo order:
1. Aardvark (Orycteropus afer)
2. Honey Badger (Mellivora capensis)
3. Elephants (Loxodonta africana)
4. Lion (Panthera leo)

In order to obtain information about the diversity of mammals and in particular the stock of large carnivores in the Luambe National Park, a monitoring study was initiated in cooperation with the Zambian Carnivore Program (ZCP) which, with the help of camera traps, recorded all mammals, especially the occurrence of large carnivores such as leopards, lions, hyenas and wild dogs in the park.

Southern Carmine Bee-Eaters (Merops nubicoides) ar Southern Carmine Bee-Eaters (Merops nubicoides) are exceptionally beautiful birds resident in Africa. Among the 28 species in the Meropidae family, they are the biggest species of bee-eater that can be found in Africa 🌍🐦

Southern Carmine Bee-Eaters have a three-step migration. The birds arrive in the most northern Zones, of their migration route, for example, Zambia, in August / September to breed. By December they then disperse into more southern regions like Botswana and the Transvaal. From March onwards, the birds then migrate to equatorial Africa until they return back to their breeding sites in August...

Michael and Tom Riffel on Ou Kaapse Weg near Cape Town in South Africa.

After completing his studies at the University of Heidelberg and a doctorate in zoology, Michael Riffel founded the company RIFCON GmbH in 2000, which today employs around 200 scientists. In 2014, Michael founded Luambe Conservation Ltd. in Zambia, which is involved in ecotourism and operates the @luambecamp in Luambe National Park.
The establishment and operation of the safari camp made Dr Riffel aware of the various, sometimes massive problems of the small national park and finally prompted him to found C4C Fund gGmbH.

After graduating from high school, Tom made his way to Zambia to work as an intern in various safari camps, gaining insights into the safari industry and prevailing conservation issues. The following year, he completed FGASA-approved field guide training in South Africa and Botswana and then worked again in safari camps in different national parks in Zambia. Since 2019, Tom has dedicated himself to studying Wildlife, Ecology, and Conservation Science at the University of Suffolk. As he began his studies in England, he also began to develop a strong interest in ornithology...

Michael from C4C Fund recently flew with CSL pilot Michael from C4C Fund recently flew with CSL pilot Gareth Broekhuizen to check the state of Luambe National Park after the rains. They also had some great wildlife sightings 🐘🦛

The presence of airplanes, especially in areas that are neglected like Luambe National Park, can be an important anti-poaching measure. They can cover long distances in a short time, help to spot poachers and especially prevent poachers from coming to the park. In addition, they are also useful for finding wildlife in areas that are hard to reach or track collared animals, such as the Wild Dogs or Lions from Zambian Carnivore Program.
